Vasconcelos Avenue is one of the four main roads that run east to west through the municipality of San Pedro Garza García. Thanks to its central location, it became the main public transportation artery and an important commercial corridor.

Built over 40 years ago to meet the municipality’s traffic needs, Vasconcelos emerged without an urban design vision, connecting various predominantly residential neighborhoods. Over time, residential uses were replaced by commercial establishments—mostly on lots too small for such purposes. This has led to mobility issues such as parking conflicts, poor vehicular access, and sidewalk encroachment. In addition, the existing sidewalk, which was originally narrow, has been occupied by light poles, billboards, and trees, further limiting pedestrian space.

The project aims to define a vision for Vasconcelos Avenue as a central artery for sustainable mobility in a modern metropolis. It envisions an inclusive corridor where pedestrians, public transport, and cars share space safely and equitably. It also proposes the transformation of sidewalks through underground wiring, tree planting, and appropriate urban furniture, thereby improving the area’s image and value.

The plan includes a long-term vision and a series of short-, medium-, and long-term actions to transform Vasconcelos Avenue across several local administrations.
